GST registration: documents checklist

The documents most applicants need to have ready before applying for GST registration.

Having documents ready is the fastest way to avoid queries. Requirements vary with the type of business, but most applications need the following.

Identity: PAN and Aadhaar of the proprietor, partners or directors, and a recent photograph of each.

Business details: proof of the place of business, such as a rent agreement with the owner's consent and a recent utility bill, or property papers if owned.

Bank: a cancelled cheque or the first page of a bank statement showing the account holder's name and account number.

Constitution: incorporation certificate, LLP agreement or partnership deed for firms and companies.

Whether you must register depends on turnover, state and the kind of supply you make. Check your case before applying.
